There was a workshop organized by the MNA under the auspicious of the DMA with the theme of “What if Major Oil Spill occurs from Very Large Crude Oil Carrier”.
This workshop attempted to draw attention to the urgent need that is to establish a strong and valid legislative framework, meanwhile, to scrutinize the current legal system and examine loopholes in effective mechanism for the implementation of marine pollution prevention which might lead to failure to protect the marine environment. It has also identified the weakness in legal structure in respect of marine pollution and underlines to resolve the absence of remedying to the environmental damages as well as compensation against liabilities. At the end of the day, this workshop advocated expeditious national legislation process that needs to be established in order for prevention of marine pollution in Myanmar.

Myanmar Nautical Association (MNA) is organising the Maritime Conference Myanmar which will be held from 15-16 November 2018 at ROSE GARDEN Hotel in Yangon. Powered by the regional association, governments, shipowners, and major stakeholders to set the benchmark with unrivalled information, peer to peer networking and an accompanying exhibition of new and upcoming market potentials for Myanmar maritime sectors.
The conference will focus on major insurance, regulation, environment and job opportunities for Myanmar seafarers, with a focus how the industry has progressed in its technology adoption strategy, and what more needs to be done.
